ACHILLES - Leader of Myrmidous from Pythia (North Tesalia). Son of Peleus King of Pythis and Thetis (Queen of the sea nymphs). He is know as Achilles of the slight feet, or Achilles of the golden hair. He is the most valiant and the best fighter of the Greeks. The trojans has him a great fear; possibly because is an invulnerable demi-god, he can only die if is hurt in the heel (When Achilles was born, his loving mother Thetis wished to make him immortal, and for that purpose she dipped him in the waters of the river Styx -river between the world of the living and that of the dead- , but the heel was outside the water). He is very proud and irascible. He is something antagonized with Agamemnon, both have very irritable personalities.
When Achilles was a child, his father brought him to Chiron, the wise Centaur living in Mount Pelion. Destiny left, at any moment, two courses for Achilles: to stay in the siege of Troy, die and win everlasting Fame, or go home and fameless have a long life. He chose to die young, but achieving the fame
During first phase of Trojan war (nine years, before the decisive battle in the tenth year) Achilles sacked the islands of Tenedos and Lesbos, and the cities of Thebe, Antandrus, Adramytium, Lyrnessus; and reaching far to the south, he sacked also Cyme, Phocaea, Smyrna, Clazomenae and Colophon.
