FIRST CRUSADE
Antecedents:
The power Seljuk Turkish in the Sacred Places is decaying. The death of the powerful Suleiman, Chaka and Malik Shah has dismembered their territory with the constant civil wars that they have him, and divide in a great quantity of small dominions. The Fatimyd Egyptian has begun to conquer the south of Palestine. The small Arab emirats try to be liberated of the Turkish yoke.
Alexius Commenus, emperor of Byzancio, decides to take advantage of this situation to recover his old territory, in Asia Minor and Syria. But he has few soldiers, he needs foreign mercenaries, and he requests help to the Pope Urban II.
Urban II are concerned because this anarchy in the area impedes the access from the pilgrims to
Sacred Earth and create many difficulties to the Christian of East. For it he decides to preach the crusade to expel the
infidel. An exalted scream extended for Occident: Deus vult! Deus vult!
Deus le volt! Diex le vol! Dio lo vuole! Die li volt! Dios lo quiere! God wants it!
A wave of occidentals princes, bishops, lords, knigths, clergymen, peasants and beggars start toward Jerusalem, overflowing the forecasts of Alexius that feels unable to control these "barbarian" franks.
